First LTER-Spain meeting (25/X/2007)

Last 25th october the 1st LTER-Spain meeting was held at the Doñana Biological Station. Assistants from stakeholder sector and representatives of LTER-sites met to bring the first impulse to the challenge of LTER-Spain becoming a member of LTER-Europe and ILTER.

R. Díaz-Delgado organized the meeting and showed the proposed road map until August 2008 to be accepted by the LTER-Spain members. The presentation file in Spanish is available for downloading.

The general agenda of the meeting followed the next points:

11:00-11:45. Main Presentation (R. Díaz-Delgado)

   1. LTER-Spain candidature
   2. LTER-Europe (Alter-Net and scientific agenda)
   3. LTER vs LTSER sites and platforms
   4. Stakeholders' role
   5. Membership requirements and ‘memorandum of understanding’
   6. Road Map to ILTER 2008 (Bratislava).

11:45-12:30. Proposed sites and Spanish strategy (R. Zamora-C. Bonet, R. Díaz-Delgado)

    * Sierra Nevada: Monitoring program, historical information, type of node.
    * Doñana: Monitoring program, historical information, type of node.
    * Strategy: Other sites of interest (OAPN, RENPA)
    * From REDOTE to LTER-Spain

12:30-13:15. Logistic issues (R. Díaz-Delgado)

    * Responsabilities: Representatives and comunication.
    * Website and Logo
    * Integration with other networks and initiatives (Globimed, CarboEurope,)
    * Next meetings (LTER-Europe in Doñana, 21-25 Jannuary 2008)

13:15-14:00. Round table and discussion.

  • Doñana holds 180 workers and Sierra Nevada about 240 people (JC)
  • It would be interesting to present the initiative to the Council of Social Participation for Doñana site (JC) 
  • Memorandum also involves scientific responsabilities (RDD)
  • We cannot create dependencies among institutions (JC)
  • The Spanish strategy must be reflected into the Memorandum (JC)
